After not thinking about the Twilight Saga for years, I’ve had a Twilight-heavy year in 2020. This week, Midnight Sun (Twilight from Edward’s point of view) will be published. Back in March, before COVID-19 shut down the world, my husband and I traveled to Forks, Washington. so he could give a lecture at Peninsula Community College. […]

So, it seems only fitting that, on my last day with the company, I enjoy a bottle in honor of the last eight years.🍷

Here’s to the next adventure!

Nightmare book. ☠️ Dream location. 🇦🇺 Nightmare book. ☠️ Dream location. 🇦🇺

@gradyhendrix is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! The Final Girl Support Group is the third book I’ve read of his and it’s tied for my favorite so far (with The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires). ❤️

The horror movie references aren’t subtle, but they’re so well executed and bloody fun! Lynette is yet another flawed, slightly unreliable, and realistic female protagonist. And yet again, I love how Hendrix takes unbelievable characters and situations (slasher villains) and makes them feel completely real and integrated into the story world.

What’s better than the library? When the library What’s better than the library? When the library comes to you!

A few weeks ago, Jack and I enjoyed reading “Carl and the Meaning of Life” while on a walk at Freer Field, a local park. Storywalk Ashland placed the pages around the walking trail, so we could read as we strolled. Who knew earthworms could be so wise?

I’ve actually been loving reading children’s books again as a mom and author. It’s fun to see how the books manifest the learning goals they have and watch Jack’s imagination start to blossom as we read.

Have you returned to children’s books as an adult? Or encountered them in the wild?
Placing my debut novel on the steps of Harvard Uni Placing my debut novel on the steps of Harvard University’s Widener Library for this photo brought two of my wildest dreams together.

Since graduating with my master’s degree, I haven’t done as much writing as I would like. Apparently, that’s a side effect of having a baby, too. 😜 But that’s finally changing.

After rewriting the beginning, I’ve now reached 40,000 words in The Queen’s Legacy, the fourth and final book in the Desertera series. The BIG question has been answered… ⚙️ and now my characters are fighting about what to do with it. And me? I’m just having a blast.

It’s my goal to finish this long-overdue draft by the end of the year and to publish the novel in 2024. Here’s hoping making a bold public statement will help hold me accountable!
Jack got his first haul from @ashlandpubliclibrary Jack got his first haul from @ashlandpubliclibraryohio today! Swipe for a closer look at the books and for a throwback to his first library trip.

I’ve been waiting for him to show interest in books, and he finally has! Big relief for this author-mom. 😅 At the library, I held up the books and we borrowed the ones whose covers made him smile and laugh the biggest.

Themes: cars, dinosaurs, outer space, and animals. A boy of my own heart 🚗 🦖 🪐 🐰
Am I the only one who doesn’t want spooky season Am I the only one who doesn’t want spooky season to end?!

If you’re hanging onto the spooky spirit, check out Vampires of New Orleans. This dark fantasy anthology features five bloodcurdling stories.

And 100% of the proceeds support @covenanthousenola, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless and at-risk youth in New Orleans!

I’ve contributed “Another Dead End.” It’s about a woman’s search to discover why her mother abandoned her. I was pregnant when I wrote it, so motherhood is the central theme.

What does it mean to be a good mother? How much do we owe our parents? What are the limits of parent-child love?

I hope you enjoy it. Link in bio ➡️

BIG thank you to J. Thorn and @zachbohannon for the experience and publishing. And shoutout to my fellow authors, @catherinespader, @s.a.schneider, and Michael Axe. Can’t wait to sink my fangs into your stories!

In my main career as a copywriter, I helped to name, brand, and write the label for this McLaren Vale Shiraz. I finally got to taste it tonight—and damn is it good! Aussie reds are my fave. 🇦🇺

As a writer, I’ve always thought myself deeply in tune with emotion. But I never could have predicted how much I would love Jack from the beginning.

Needless to say, I’m taking a little maternity leave from The Queen’s Legacy. But I cannot wait to get back to writing with my new perspective as a mother and a whole new definition of legacy to carry into the final Desertera novel.
My writing group's latest book, Ground Fiction Vol My writing group's latest book, Ground Fiction Vol. 3, was just released. While I didn't submit this time around (kind of busy growing a human and trying to finish the final Desertera novel 🤪), there are so many wonderful authors and stories to check out!

This short story collection features dark fantasy and speculative fiction with magic, witches, and a mysterious spiral that spells good or chaos.

I’m honored to have contributed The Hanging Tree, about a Puritan-born witch who returns to Salem and is NOT pleased by the witch tourism industry.

This anthology came together after an amazing world building weekend with a group of fabulous authors led by J. Thorn and @zachbohannon. I’m so glad to have been a part of it and can’t wait to dive into everyone’s stories!

And all proceeds go to @h7gables the House of the Seven Gables charity!

Whenever I travel to the Flint Hills, I understand Whenever I travel to the Flint Hills, I understand why my westward-wandering ancestors stopped in Kansas. Our state has a natural magic that I feel in my bones. 🌾

Over the long holiday weekend, @danielngullotta and I escaped to Alma for a babymoon/writers’ retreat. We did write, but we also talked, laughed, dreamed of our little boy, and drank copious cups of tea. It was perfect, and I already want to go back. ❤️
In January, I wrote half as many words as I did in In January, I wrote half as many words as I did in all of 2021. 🎉

While there are still many, many words to go on the fourth Desertera novel, I’m trying to do better about celebrating small wins. And accepting that there will always be more to do.

What’s a win you’re celebrating as we move into February and the Year of the Tiger?
500th ride. 21 weeks pregnant. 34,000 words into 500th ride.

34,000 words into the final Desertera novel.

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 2022 so far. 🤞

And even though my cardiovascular endurance has taken a big hit as I share my body with our baby boy, I’ve never felt stronger. I’m pedaling, breathing, living for two and still pulling respectable numbers on the leaderboard.

Thanks to @emmalovewell for the Disney ride and to @robinnyc and @onepeloton for all the inspiring prenatal workouts. This community continues to keep me strong and sane.
