February is always unsettling to me. The newness of January has worn off, but it’s not quite my birthday month (March), and yet, all I have to do is blink and it’s over. Poor February. So short.
As I said in January, I’m not sure how long I will do these little mid-month check-ins. So far, they have been general reflections on my 2015 resolutions and kind of a business and personal health check. I’m thinking that after this month, I might restrict them to my author newsletter, which you can read about here and sign up for here.
But, for now, let’s see how I’m doing this month.
Yikes. As always, I feel like this is the goal that suffers. Isn’t that so cliche of me? I finished my pen and paper edits of The Cogsmith’s Daughter on January 31st, and now I am in the revision stage. Revising and rewriting are taking much longer than I expected, which is trying my patience on many levels. With my day job, it’s difficult to find the large chunks of time I need to work on the revising, especially now that I’m working overtime every week. However, I know work is not a valid enough excuse — not when I seem to have plenty of time for television and reading in my life. I just need to suck it up and refocus.
I’m also getting very antsy to start a new manuscript. I have my next two manuscripts planned. I haven’t started writing on them, because I worry that if I do, I will abandon The Cogsmith’s Daughter and get way off my intended publication schedule. We’ll see how long I last.
My business goals are progressing smoothly. I’ve finally started my newsletter, and I have a few ideas I am wanting to try in other areas of my author platform. I’ll be running those by my newsletter crowd and asking what they would most like to see.
As for reading, that is going well also. I have finished one of the books from my ever-growing book review list, and I’ve started my first beta read for another author. Plus, now that my work reading load has gone down, I’m able to get back to the nonfiction I want to read for me, which has been fantastic.
Marriage is lovely. Daniel and I celebrated our first Valentine’s Day together (both as a married couple and on the same continent). We’re still waiting on his permanent residency and graduate school admissions, but he has finally obtained the proper paperwork for employment, so that’s very exciting!
On the positive side, I’ve been good about my eating healthy and exercising goals. We’re doing a fitness challenge at work right now where we aim to get 8,000 steps a day. While my pedometer doesn’t make it to 8,000 every day, I’m close to what I need each week, and it’s been good motivation to get up and move.
On the negative side, I had my first migraine of the year this past week. It came back with a vengeance. I’m attributing it to a poor night’s sleep and me stressing myself out over little things that don’t require stress. Because that’s just what I do sometimes. But hey, that’s the longest migraine-free streak I’ve had in a long time, so that’s progress!
Well that’s it for me today. I just wanted to check in with you all since the blog is being (happily!) taken over by The 2K International Writers’ Blog Tour this month. Don’t worry — we’ll be back with week three of author interviews tomorrow!
