I’m not sure if I will do regular check-ins, but since it has been 2015 for two weeks now (and I’m pretty sure we’ve all already forgotten our resolutions), I thought I would do a quick status update. Perhaps these posts will function somewhat like the journal I’m not keeping this year!
My 2015 resolutions are off to a slow start. Partly, this is due to the nature of my goals. After all, most of my resolutions are longer-term goals. However, a few of them are daily or weekly activities, and two weeks in, I can already see room for improvement.
Thus far, I have not written a single word of fiction. And in case you missed my post yesterday, no, I do not have writer’s block. I’ve simply been procrastinating, because editing my first draft of my first novel is making me self-conscious. I’ve edited up through Chapter 8 so far, and I’m very anxious to get through it and get it in the hands of some beta readers and a professional editor who can tell me if it is horrible and/or salvageable.
Even though I haven’t been writing yet, my second novel has not been entirely abandoned. I started an inspiration board and made the story beats and character sketches for it last week. So, it is all ready to go whenever I get over myself and get my butt in gear.
I’m pleased with my WordPress site redesign. I’m not at the stage yet to need a self-hosted website or set up my LLC, but I think this new design functions well for where I am at right now. As you all probably know, I’ve been keeping up with my resolution to publish a blog post at least three times a week, and luckily, with the blog tour coming up in February, that is set to continue.
I’m working on setting up an email newsletter. However, because I do not want to share my home address, I need to register for a P.O. box. So, that project is on hold for the work week.
Reading may be the goal that is going the most smoothly. However, much of my reading time is being taken up by books that my bosses are requiring me to read for work, so I’m very anxious to get through them and get to the books I’m reviewing for a few fellow indie authors.
Daniel and I are doing a good job of keeping expenses down so we can save up for our move. He has all his graduate school applications in, so now comes the big waiting game to see where he is accepted and where we will be moving. Fingers crossed for his top choices!
Miraculously, I have been limiting my sweets and junk food intake. I’m still indulging, but I’ve been substituting healthy snacks when I get too many cravings. Exercise and learning to cook are not going as well (unless you count the dozen or so recipes I’ve pinned on Pinterest).
In even better news, I am currently on my longest streak without a migraine in months! Hopefully, I didn’t just jinx it. However, I am doing everything I can to reduce stress, focus on my daily gratitudes, and keep my head happy. So far, so good.
That’s it for me. I definitely need to get over my fear and get to writing, but I’m pleased with where all of my other goals are at right now. Any words of advice or encouragement are appreciated!
