Feeling: I felt fine about my novel, but I was really jonesing to get out of the house today. Felt a bit cooped up.
Motivation: Reading the book Career Change by Joanna Penn. I’m really excited to learn about her journey from desk job to full-time writer.
Inspiration: Thinking about how quickly word counts add up. See the insights below.
Biggest Triumph: Hitting the 20,000 word mark. This means I’m over 1/3 done with the NaNoWriMo word count. It really shows how quickly words can add up when you write consistently!
Biggest Setback: I wasn’t really in “the mood” to write today. I put in my word count, but my lack of enthusiasm made writing feel like more of a chore. I know that if I hadn’t been doing NaNoWriMo, I probably would have only written about 1,000 words or so.
Helpful Insights: I really thought a lot about my progress today. In eight days, I’ve written over 20,000 words! It’s crazy to think about! However, the more I do consider it, the more I think about life after NaNoWriMo. I realized: if I only write 1,000 words every day, by the end of one year, I will have written 365,000 words. That’s roughly 3 really long novels or 7 NaNo length novels! And it would only take between 30 and 60 minutes a day. Why have I not been doing this all these years?!
In short: think about your long game. Writing a novel seems like a gargantuan task, but when you consider that a mere 1,000 words a day could produce 3 to 7 novels in one year, it suddenly becomes SO MUCH more manageable and less intimidating.
