Okay, writers, we are 1/5 of the way through NaNoWriMo. Keep up the great work everyone. We’ve got this!
Today’s Word Count: 2,147
Total Word Count: 15,958
Estimated Writing Time: 2 hours
Feeling: Encouraged and grateful to be surrounded by so many great writer friends and a supportive family.
Motivation: I stumbled across another writer’s NaNoWriMo update today, in which she (I believe she, I can’t find the blog now, so feel free to comment if you happen to read this!) stated that we are now 1/5 of the way through NaNoWriMo. For some reason, this just floored me. I’m already 20% done. All I have to do is do this again four more times, and I will have made 50k (and then some!)!
Inspiration: Remembering the taste of salt water.
Biggest Triumph: Making it to 15,000 words (almost 16,000!) when I only “need” to be on 10,000 at this point.
Biggest Setback: If you can’t guess by now, it’s work. Always work. I feel like a broken record, but I really wish I had more time. But that’s okay! One day, I will be full time author entrepreneur, and every word I write this month gets me closer to that goal!
Helpful Insights: I spent a lot of years as a “writer” making excuses. I can’t write right now. I’m too busy with high school/university/getting married/etc. Well, let me tell you, I was wrong. I wish I could have told me sooner. I allowed myself to get overwhelmed by the enormity of the task of writing a novel. I convinced myself that a first draft had to be perfect. Hell, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
All you have to do is write one day at a time, and it adds up so quickly. If you make creativity a priority, you can find the time and build the content. And you know what? I’m realizing that this can and will be my full time job one day. All I have to do is keep cramming in the time while I work this day job, let my content snowball, and in a few years, I’ll be there. You can be there, too, but you’ve got to start now. Butt in chair.
