NaNoWriMo Update: Day 1 Recap

I apologize in advance. Undoubtedly, the majority of my blog content for November will be NaNoWriMo updates. However, I promise to keep them short and sweet — in other words, as painless as possible — and provide any useful insights as they occur. Anyway, without further ado, here is my Day 1 recap.

Word Count4,059

Estimated Writing Time: 3.5 hours

Feeling: Optimistic and just plain right — like I’m meant to be doing this!

Motivation: Keeping my promises to myself and the writing community

Inspiration: Charlie, the alarm clock frog, who didn’t exist until I sat down to write!

Biggest Triumph: Giving an introduction to my world’s layout, theology, and culture

Biggest Setback: While this isn’t exactly a setback, the most challenging part of my writing was to get started. However, once I found that opening scene, everything else flowed naturally.

Helpful Insights: Because my world is very complex, I took my readers on a “walking tour” with my protagonist as she ran her morning errands. By doing this, I was able to give the readers a basic understanding of where they are as well as allow them some quality time in the head of my protagonist.

Anyway, I’m feeling good and ready to take on Day 2. I hope you all are finding NaNoWriMo success so far! Feel free to share your own word counts, experiences, and tips below!

  1. Congrats! You are very inspirational and I hope you know that. I liked the way you formatted your post as well. One of these days I might get that organized but I highly doubt it. 🙂
